This week has seen Facebook testing video covers as a new option for Pages, allowing businesses to create an eye-catching video about their products or services between 20-90 seconds long.
This new feature is being tested on the Narcos Facebook page and what you can see is a short video loop in place of the standard, static image.
Facebook HQ have confirmed the test:
“We recently started testing the ability on desktop to upload a video as the Page cover. Once a cover video has been created, video will render when people visit the Page.
By making cover video available, we want to help you create more engaging interactions and drive more rich experience for your audience by letting you spotlight your creative content in one of the most prominent spaces: your Page cover.
This feature is still in early testing, but we expect it to roll out more widely soon.”
Facebook have always said that their aim is for the majority of content on their platform to be video, and this new ability to showcase a promotional video on your cover page is the next step towards this.
Zuckerberg is a huge advocate of video, and in an interview with BuzzFeed he said:
“We’re entering this new golden age of video. I wouldn’t be surprised if you fast-forward five years and most of the content that people see on Facebook and are sharing on a day-to-day basis is video.”
