Instagram Stories is the latest rollout from Instagram and it’s gone a little bit ‘Snapchatty’ – as you may have noticed if you logged into your account over the last few days.
So, it’s similar to Snapchat in that this new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format. The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or feed.
So how can brands take advanatge of Instagram Stories? Well, for starters it’s a way of producing content on the network more frequently, without the concern that posting too often might make followers ‘switch off’ or unfollow.
As this article from Glossy states, “Brands were trying to convert their fans to Snapchat for a while but Snapchat is difficult from both a discovery and a strategy perspective,” said Mariana Rittenhouse, director of brand strategy at Dash Hudson. “Now they can directly tap into their already established audiences on Instagram to do the same thing, and the analytics make it even more of a draw.”
Nike used its Michael Jordan brand Jumpman23 Instagram account to unveil a new Michigan football jersey in the video. As Ad Age describes, Nike is a practiced Snapchat marketer, too, but the platform does not embrace brands the way Instagram does by making it easy to follow them and like their posts.
Instagram search also makes it easier for users to find and follow brands if they like their Instagram Stories content, rather than having to know their exact user name as they do on Snapchat.

- Tap the ‘+” sign on the top left of your Instagram feed.
- Take your photo by tapping the round button, or take a video by pressing down for up to 10 seconds. S
- Select one of the three pen type options to doodle on your photo, add an emoji using your keyboard, or swipe right to select a simple colour filter.
- When you’re done, tap the checkmark icon to share!
